Did you know about this obligation to your Lord?

Allah says in the Qur’an: “Invite ˹all˺ to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and only debate with them in the best manner. Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is ˹rightly˺ guided” (16:125)

But have we fulfilled this obligation?

There are over 500 million Latinos in the world, with 60 MILLION living in the United States alone.

However, the message of Islam has NOT yet reached them. We have yet to fulfill our obligation.

The majority of Latinos don’t have any knowledge about the basics of Islam. That’s because they’ve never read any material about Islam in their language.

How do you think it feels to not be able to learn about Islam because the majority of what is out there is written in a language that you don’t understand?

While we’ve been able to make an impact on 1,000s of Latinos and helped, on average, 100 Latinos per year embrace Islam, we don’t yet have the resources we need to be able to reach out to everyone who can benefit from the beauty of Islam.

That’s why we need your support to make our efforts possible.

Is it not fair that we at least give Spanish speakers the opportunity to read and understand the message that was conveyed to us?

Many non-Muslims have embraced Islam after JUST reading the Qur’an in their language!

According to the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding that show Hispanics are the fastest-growing group in the nation to embrace Islam.

In 2009, only 1 percent of Muslims identified as Hispanic, the institute said. By 2018, it was 7 percent, according to its annual report, “American Muslim Poll: Predicting and Preventing Islamophobia.” There are 250,000 Latino Muslims in the United States, according to Islam in Spanish.

“That’s a 700 percent growth in less than 10 years, and no other group has grown at this rate,” Dalia Mogahed, the institute’s director of research, wrote in an email.

Some of the reasons Latinos are leaving their religions and embracing Islam include:

Disagreement with the core beliefs that they were taught
> Hypocrisy in the ways people in their communities practiced the religion
> A spiritual reconnection to the lost heritage of Muslim Spain (Al-Andalus)

For centuries, Latinos have had difficulties finding the answers to some of the questions they have had with regards to the concept of God.

They had been longing for the answers that only the Qur’an could provide to them.

But it just was not accessible to them -not in their mother tongue. Not until merely 25 years ago.

Fortunately, for 20 years IslamInSpanish has been working on filling this void of information -delivering the light of Islam in a manner that Latinos can connect with and most importantly, understand in their native language.

And now? Latinos who discover Islam are finding that it is more in line with their morals, culture, and existing beliefs than they thought!

About IslamInSpanish

Since 2001, IslamInSpanish has been the pioneer in educating Latinos and Muslims about Islam WORLDWIDE through our digital and local platforms.

Based in Houston, Texas our organization began by carrying out live programs through the city’s almost 100 mosques. Due to the gracious donations from our community, we were able to open up the FIRST EVER Spanish-speaking Islamic Center in the United States in 2016!

Our intent has always been to educate Latinos about Islam in Spanish from its authentic sources while separating it from the culture of Muslims of different countries and explaining its principles in a culturally-relevant manner so that Latinos can discover the many similarities between Islam and the Latino culture and its historic roots.

What We’ve Done

It is estimated that IslamInSpanish has been responsible for over 1,000 people embracing Islam through our Dawah work.

One of the main reasons that people who have embraced Islam give as to why they are attracted to Islam is that Islam emphasizes a “personal and direct connection with God, without the interference of an institution or clergy.” – Dalia Mogahed

Many Latinos who have embraced Islam through our work often express how prior to discovering our content they have always felt confused, unclear, uneasy, or empty with their pre-existing beliefs.

By God’s grace as well as the support of our community, we have the ability to give them wisdom and clarity in their own language. Last Ramadan alone, we had at least 8 Latinos embrace Islam through virtual Shahadas -even in our current uncertain times.
